Black Obsidian
Volcanic glass, cooled too fast to form crystals, which is why obsidian polishes to a mirror finish nothing else quite matches. The collection here runs to spheres, towers, bowls, daggers, a yin yang carving paired with clear quartz, a luna cat, a dog, and a raven skull.
Because it is glass rather than crystal it takes fine detail well, so the carvings hold sharper edges than the same design would in jasper or quartz. It also shows fingerprints, so most people keep obsidian on a stand rather than in a pocket.
In crystal tradition black obsidian has long been carried as a protective stone, and it is one of the most requested pieces for that reason. There is also silver, gold and mahogany obsidian scattered through the wider collection if you want the same material with a sheen through it.
Every piece is weighed, measured and photographed individually. Hand-picked in Adelaide and posted anywhere in Australia.
