Lapis Lazuli

Deep blue, flecked with gold pyrite and often veined with white calcite, lapis lazuli has been mined and traded for thousands of years and still looks like nothing else. The collection here includes freeforms, a mushroom carving, a chip tree set on an amethyst base, and bead bracelets in 8mm and 10mm.

Quality in lapis comes down to the ratio: strong even blue with a scatter of pyrite is prized, while heavy white calcite veining brings the value down. Both are represented here at different price points, and every piece is photographed so you can judge for yourself rather than taking a grade on trust.

In crystal tradition lapis is associated with truth-telling and clear expression, which is why it turns up in the Intuition and Clarity collections here. It is also softer than quartz and will dull if it is knocked about, so the carved pieces are better kept on a shelf than in a bag.
